Our story
Taking Shape was founded in 2015 upon the belief that all children, regardless of where they were born, deserve the opportunity to unlock their full potential.
Our work began on what was once a single-floor orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, with one classroom for thirty-three students.
When our founder, Tracey Wozny, met Pastor Jean Dieugrand, the Director of Le Phare Orphanage, a connection was formed immediately. The two began to work together to support the children of Le Phare by providing school supplies, meals, and a quality education.
As more members of the surrounding Haitian community invested their time and energy into providing a better future for the children of Le Phare, Taking Shape grew into something beyond what we ever could have imagined.
The generosity of local Haitians and donors in the United States allowed us to lease a property just down the street from the orphanage, which has since been converted into a primary school with multiple classrooms and a kitchen.
The number of students we serve has jumped from thirty-three to one hundred thirty-five. Sixteen Haitian employees, including our trained teachers, cooks, and security guards, ensure that the day-to-day operations at Institution Mixte Le Phare des Anges (IMPA) meet our standard of excellence.
Students at IMPA receive meals, uniforms, school supplies, safety, and a quality education - all of which are difficult to come by in Haiti.
We are proud of the work we have been able to do thanks to the generosity of donors like you. However, we are not done yet.
As long as there are children in need of some of the most basic human rights, our work will continue. We cannot do this alone. We must work together.
Will you join us?
